Produced on the occasion of "Create" a major survey exhibition at Berkeley Art Museum that brings together work made at three pioneering centers for artists with developmental disabilities: Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, San Francisco's Creativity Explored, and NIAD Art Center in Richmond. BAM/PFA Director Lawrence Rinder, with Matthew Higgs, director of White Columns, New York, curates “Create”. From a sceenprinted poem on textile to a mini zine to drawings on found pages, "Skank Bloc Bologna Number Six" delicately teases out the vibrant and playful nature of the works it contains. Each piece is a small monument, a bundle of laughter, an observation, a relationship, a wonder and most importantly of all a celebration.
"Skank…" is produced by artist Anne Colvin and is held in several private and museum collections. It has been presented at The NY Art Book Fair, NYC; Poetic Research Bureau, Los Angeles; Frieze, London; Berkeley Art Museum, Berkeley; New Langton Arts; Southern Exposure; Silverman Gallery, San Francisco. An edition of 50 is available in the Museum bookstore and all proceeds go to BAM/PFA and the three centers.
